Sector 6 · Rift Zero
Sector 6 takes you beyond the Rift: you meet the alien lifeform, find the Human Outpost, restore the Theta Splice, finish the expedition team's project and then either secure or close Rift Zero. Those last two are separate achievements, which is where the two endings sit.
Sector 6 is the finale. You go beyond the Rift, meet an alien lifeform, discover the Human Outpost, restore the Theta Splice device, finish the expedition team's project and then secure — or close — Rift Zero. Those last two are separate achievements, which is where the game's two endings live.

What this sector is asking
Everything the facility has taught you, at full volume, with a story attached. Sector 6 is the only part of the game where the puzzles and the plot are the same object: the thing you are repairing is the thing the story is about.
Note the achievement names — Through the Looking Glass, We Are Friends!, Farpoint, Essentia Emendare, Dawn of Tomorrow, Tomorrow May Never Come. Read as a list they are a summary of the ending, in order, which is why this page keeps the plot beats at the level of "what you do" rather than "what it means".
Checkpoints
| Achievement | What it marks | % |
|---|---|---|
| Once More | Geared up for one more adventure | 0.4 |
| Through the Looking Glass | Ventured Beyond the Rift | 0.4 |
| We Are Friends! | Got acquainted with an alien lifeform | 0.3 |
| Farpoint | Discovered the Human Outpost | 0.2 |
| Why So Molecular? | Restored power to the Theta Splice device | 0.1 |
| Essentia Emendare | Finished the expedition team's project | 0.1 |
| Dawn of Tomorrow | Secured Rift Zero | 0.2 |
| Tomorrow May Never Come | Closed Rift Zero | 0.2 |
At the time of this snapshot roughly one player in five hundred had finished the campaign, so these percentages describe launch-day scarcity rather than difficulty. What matters is the order, and the order is unusually clear here: prepare, cross, meet, discover, repair, complete, then the Rift Zero decision.
The two endings
Dawn of Tomorrow (secured Rift Zero) and Tomorrow May Never Come (closed Rift Zero) are separate achievements. Both sit at the same completion percentage, which tells you something useful: they are alternatives, not steps. You cannot get both in one run.
Plan for that before you reach the final room. Talk about it out loud with your partner while you are still in the outpost, not while the final prompt is on screen — this is the one decision in the game that a pair can genuinely disagree about, and it is the last thing the game asks of you.
The tools you need here
By this point one of you is carrying the fully upgraded Norček prototype — the third version, after the experimental one from Sector 1 and the upgraded one from R&D Headquarters. The Hook Gun and the Goop Gun are both part of your kit by now, and the final sector uses both: grappling to Energized surfaces for traversal, goop for the crystallisation and locking tricks the achievement list documents.
Two of the game's co-op prank achievements — You're Chatty for a Statue and Danger! High Voltage — are tool demonstrations rather than story beats, and both sit around the two percent mark because players do not think to use their tools on each other. Do them here, before the ending, while you still have a facility to play in.
Where pairs stall in Sector 6
- Rushing the Rift. The final chamber is the most visually loud room in the game and the easiest one to brute-force. Stop and read it.
- Skipping the outpost. Farpoint is a discovery checkpoint, and what you find there is the context for the Theta Splice repair.
- Doing the ending decision alone. Both achievements are one-shot per run. Decide together, then act.
- Assuming a second playthrough is required for the other ending. It is, but it is a short one if you replay from a checkpoint — plan it as a separate evening, not as a save-scum.
Closing the campaign
Essentia Emendare — "finished the expedition team's project" — is the last story checkpoint before the decision. When it fires, you are at the end: secure or close, watch what happens, and then go collect what you missed with the achievement list.
