Sector 4 · R&D Headquarters

Quick answer

Sector 4 climbs R&D Headquarters to its second floor, cuts the building's power problem down to something two people can fix, and ends with an upgraded Norček prototype. Only about six percent of players have the upgraded prototype achievement.

SEC. 04R&D Headquarters

Sector 4 climbs R&D Headquarters to its second floor, cuts the building's power problem down to something two people can fix, and ends with an upgraded Norček prototype. It is where the game becomes a building-sized mechanism instead of a room-sized one.

What this sector is asking

The first three sectors gave you a room, a rule and a tool. Sector 4 gives you a building. Power is the system now, and the two of you are working on opposite sides of it: one of you reads distribution state, the other one is physically at the equipment.

The completion numbers show how much harder that is. Second-floor access sits at 18.3%; restoring the building's power drops to 7.4%; the prototype upgrade to 6.1%. Roughly six in ten players who enter the sector never get the building running.

Why the power puzzle is different

Every previous puzzle had a visible answer once you combined both views. The building does not: it has state, and state can be wrong in ways that look identical to a puzzle you have not solved yet.

Three habits make it tractable:

  • Establish a baseline before touching anything. One player reads out every circuit or panel state, in order, and the other one writes it down — literally, on paper or in a note. You will need the "before" list to know what your changes did.
  • Change one thing at a time. The achievement name is a joke about the oldest fix in the world: turn it off and on again. The reason it works in this room is that a reset returns the building to a known state, and a known state is worth more to you than a clever guess.
  • Trust the label, not the light. Powered equipment in this sector reports its own state, and the report can lag. If a panel says one thing and the room says another, the room is right.

The prototype upgrade

Double Time fires when you obtain an upgraded Norček prototype. That is the third version of the tool you were handed in Sector 1: experimental first, then whatever happened during Gravitonics, now upgraded. It is also the last tool upgrade before the endgame, so the upgrade is worth deliberately testing on every surface type you can find before you move on.

At 6.1%, this is one of the rarest achievements in the first four sectors. Do not assume you missed it — most players have not got here yet.

Where pairs stall in Sector 4

  • Rebooting in the wrong order. A reset that happens before a physical step is undone will land you back at the same broken state, and it will feel like the game refused your input.
  • Splitting up without a check-in rhythm. Building-scale puzzles need a clock: agree to re-sync every five minutes, even if the news is "nothing changed".
  • Ignoring the second floor once you reach it. Recon & Disclose is arrival, not completion. Pairs regularly celebrate the checkpoint and stop looking.
  • Not writing anything down. The power state has more variables than two people can hold in their heads while also talking.

Getting the sector closed

Turn It Off And On Again is the sector's real end; Double Time follows almost immediately. After that the route runs to the Temporal Research Centre, which is the longest stretch in the facility and the one with the most achievements — five of them, and only 0.6% of players have the Battery Bulb one.
