Chapter 1 and 2 puzzle answers

Quick answer

Rehabilitation Suite door: read three pictures in order. Circuit board: two screw colours per socket, both shapes must be on the card. Resin: styrene, acrylonitrile, butadiene, styrene at nozzles 4, 3, 1, 4.

The answers, in playing order

Six puzzles sit in the first two chapters, and five of them are the same problem at different sizes: one of you can see the information, the other can reach the controls.

PuzzleChapterThe answer
Rehabilitation Suite door1Read three pictures off the monitor in order; the other player works the matching devices in that order
Circuit board2Each socket shows two screw colours; convert both to shapes and take the card carrying those two
Resin mixing2Styrene, acrylonitrile, butadiene, styrene — nozzles 4, 3, 1, 4
Floppy disk doors2Stop four dials at the angles your partner can see; door 1 in 90° steps, door 2 in 45° steps
Spinning dials2The dials outside open floppy 01; lock each one when it points where the inside player's screen says
4×4 light grid2Copy the lit cabinet pattern with the blinking cursor; the centre button toggles, arrows only move

Rehabilitation Suite door

The first room that splits you. The player at the desk with the monitor and three blue buttons presses once and reads the three pictures as they cycle. The other player works the devices shown, in that order — in our sources that was motor, then the round ring device, then the lever.

Two failure modes, both about vocabulary. Pairs describe the pictures with gestures instead of words, and pairs agree on a name before checking that they mean the same picture. Name the object, not the idea: "the one shaped like a ring" survives translation, "the spiky one" usually does not.

Circuit board: colours into shapes

Every socket carries two screws in two colours, and a note converts colours into shapes:

ColourShape
GreenSquare
GreyPentagon
RedTriangle
PurpleStar
BlueY-shaped
The remaining colourPlus sign

Take the two shapes your socket shows, then find the card whose three symbols include both. One colour is not enough — several cards share two of their three symbols, which is why matching a single colour leaves you with two candidates and no way to choose.

Resolved pairs, as reported:

Socket pairCard
Triangle + YTwo rings
Star + PentagonDome
Square + PentagonBicycle
Square + PlusTent
Pentagon + PlusStick figure with a rake
Y + StarBoxy 3

One caveat we are printing rather than hiding: the two sources disagree on the colour of the plus sign — one says yellow, one says orange. The mapping is otherwise identical. Look at your own note and use whichever of the two it shows; the pairs above are unaffected.

Resin mixing: 4 → 3 → 1 → 4

The recipe asks for equal parts acrylonitrile and butadiene, stabilised by styrene before and after. The dispenser has five nozzles:

NozzleChemical
1 and 5Butadiene
2 and 4Styrene
3Acrylonitrile

So the sequence is 4 → 3 → 1 → 4: styrene, acrylonitrile, butadiene, styrene. Position the cup under each nozzle before dispensing, then process.

Two different mistakes look the same from the outside. Wrong order gives you a rejected mixture and you restart. Right nozzle, empty cup gives you nothing in the container — check the cup is under the outlet before pressing again.

Floppy disk doors

Two barriers, both of them dial puzzles with a screen the other player can read.

  • Door 1 uses four indicators that rotate in 90° steps: up, right, down, left. The reader calls the four orientations in order; the operator stops each dial on its orientation.
  • Door 2 uses four indicators that rotate in 45° steps, so it includes the diagonals: upper-left, upper-right, lower-left, lower-right. Door 1's combination is not a substitute for door 2's display.

The light tells you the state: orange means the dial is not set, yellow means it is being set, blue-white means it is locked. A dial keeps drifting briefly after you release the control, so account for the drift rather than fighting it.

The size trap

If you are inside the printer route and the floppy walls will not open no matter what the dials say, nothing inside opens them. Walk back to the start, get enlarged by your partner, and let them shrink and go in instead — the console outside is what starts the spinning-dial puzzle that lowers floppy 01. Pairs lose ten minutes here because the room looks like it wants a code and actually wants a size swap.

Spinning dials and the 4×4 light grid

Spinning dials: the small player reads the four still pointers from a screen inside; the big player outside watches four spinning dials and locks each when it points the same way. Same colour language as the floppy doors — orange not set, yellow setting, blue-white locked — and the second stage repeats the whole thing in 45° steps.

4×4 light grid: the printer produces the green key card once its grid matches the pattern on the lit lab cabinet. The small player moves a blinking cursor with the arrow buttons and toggles a light with the centre button; the big player reads the cabinet through the window and calls the moves. Moving the cursor does not change a light, and toggling the same light twice undoes it — those two account for nearly every failed attempt.

Where this was checked

Rehabilitation door, circuit board, resin and floppy doors: two independent sources each, and the resin sequence (4 → 3 → 1 → 4) is confirmed by three. Spinning dials and the 4×4 grid: two sources each, both describing the same colour states. The plus-sign colour discrepancy on the circuit note is real and is printed above rather than resolved by guessing. Build checked: 1.1.2, 23 October 2026.
