Sector 2 · Cargo Elevator

Quick answer

Sector 2 is the elevator problem: bring the Cargo Elevator up, reach the Particle Accelerator Terminus, and reactivate a Magnetic Stabilizer and the targeting array. There is a second way to run the elevator without a Fuse, and only three percent of players find it.

SEC. 02Cargo Elevator

Sector 2 is the elevator problem. The Cargo Elevator has to come up, the Particle Accelerator Terminus has to be reached, a Magnetic Stabilizer has to be restarted and the targeting array has to come back online. It also hides the game's best alternate route: you can run the elevator without a Fuse, and only about three percent of players have done it.

What this sector is asking

Sector 1 taught you to describe. Sector 2 starts asking you to sequence. There are several sub-systems in play — power, magnetics, targeting — and the order you touch them in matters, because a stabilizer you restarted before restoring power will simply stop again.

This is also the first sector where the two of you are doing genuinely different jobs at the same time rather than taking turns reading.

Read the drop between 66.2% and 59.6%: getting the elevator up is achievable for two thirds of players. Then note the cliff from 56.9% to 36.1% — twenty percentage points of players restart the magnets and never bring the targeting array back. That array is the hardest single step in the first half of the game.

The Fuse, and why it matters

Two achievements describe the same elevator: Onwards and Upwards (activated it) and Many Ways (activated it without using a Fuse). That means a Fuse is the intended solution, and the alternate route is a bypass that the level design quietly permits.

If you find a Fuse, use it — the elevator is the path forward and the achievement is unmissable. If you want Many Ways, you need to work out how to energise the elevator with what you already carry. The Hook Gun is the tool the achievement list associates with Energized surfaces, which is a strong hint about what the bypass looks like. Do the Fuse route first, come back for the alternate on a second run.

Sub-system order

  1. Elevator. Get the car moving. Without it, nothing else in the sector exists.
  2. Terminus. Ride up. This is fine fires when you arrive.
  3. Magnetic Stabilizer. Restart it. It is a physical, two-person job: one of you reads the state, the other one acts on it.
  4. Targeting array. Any Colour You Like. This is the real puzzle of the sector and the one that eats sessions.

Where pairs stall in Sector 2

  • Restarting the array before the magnets. The array needs a stable field. If a stabilizer is not running, your inputs land and do nothing, and it reads as a broken puzzle rather than a sequencing mistake.
  • One player operating alone. Several steps here have a read-side and an act-side in different rooms. If one of you wanders off to "check something", the other one is inputting blind.
  • Assuming the elevator is a loading screen. It is a traversal step, and on the alternate route it is a puzzle in its own right.
  • Ignoring the colour in the achievement name. Any Colour You Like is a targeting puzzle. If you are matching colours, one of you is describing them from a lit room and the other from a dark one — say the positions and the shapes instead.

Getting the sector closed

The sector closes when the targeting array is back. After that the route leads into Gravitonics, which is where the player base halves: only 19.6% of players ever switch the particle accelerator on.

Before you leave, note whether you saw a Fuse and whether you used it. That single fact decides whether Many Ways is still available to you on this save.
