Sector 5 · Temporal Research Centre
Sector 5 reaches the Temporal Research Centre, restores its power, crosses the TRC construction site, grows a Battery Bulb and deliberately traps you in a time loop. It is the longest stretch in the facility and the one with the most optional achievements.
Sector 5 is the long one. It reaches the Temporal Research Centre, restores its power, crosses the TRC construction site, grows a Battery Bulb and — deliberately — traps you in a time loop. Five achievements cover it, and the completion numbers are brutal simply because few players have got this far.

What this sector is asking
After gravity in Sector 3 and state in Sector 4, Sector 5 introduces time. That is not a metaphor: one of its achievements is Eternal Recurrence, "got stuck in a time loop", which means repetition is a designed state rather than a failure. If you find yourself doing the same thing again, the right question is not "why is this broken" but "what changed that I did not notice".
It is also the sector that most rewards patience. Two of its five checkpoints are things you grow and things you repeat, and neither is a logic puzzle in the ordinary sense.
Checkpoints
| Achievement | What it marks | % |
|---|---|---|
| A Matter of Time | Arrived at the Temporal Research Centre | 5.5 |
| Knowledge Transfer | Restored power to the Temporal Research Centre | 1.3 |
| Forward to the Past | Adventured through the TRC Construction Site | 1.1 |
| All Grown Up | Cultivated a Battery Bulb | 0.6 |
| Eternal Recurrence | Got stuck in a time loop | 0.3 |
The drop from 5.5% to 1.3% is the sharpest in the game: four in five players who reach the TRC never restore its power. Treat that as a design statement — the TRC's power problem is the hardest engineering puzzle in We Were Here Tomorrow.
Sub-objectives in order
- Arrive. A Matter of Time. The TRC is the facility's time-research wing and the room tone changes when you get there.
- Restore power. Knowledge Transfer. Same discipline as Sector 4: baseline, one change at a time, reset before you theorise.
- Cross the construction site. Forward to the Past. This is a traversal segment, and it is the one place where the sector's time rules are used as geometry rather than as a puzzle.
- Grow the Battery Bulb. All Grown Up. "Cultivated" is the achievement's own word. The facility's leaked research notes describe Norček growing plant-like organisms selected for controlled cultivation — this is that system, in your hands.
- Get stuck in the loop. Eternal Recurrence. You are meant to do this. Do not fight it, and do not assume a reset has broken your save.
The Battery Bulb, and cultivation as a mechanic
All Grown Up is the only achievement in the game with the word "cultivated" in it, and it pairs with the 30 June 2026 research notes: Norček was selecting organisms for controlled cultivation, and the Rift-derived mineral they called goop "can expand, contract, and alter its structure when in contact with one of the earlier found organisms". A Battery Bulb is what that system produces when you do it correctly.
Practically: this is a two-person gardening task. One of you controls the conditions, the other watches the state, and neither of you can rush it. If it dies, you did something in the wrong order — start again with the conditions rather than the plant.
Where pairs stall in Sector 5
- Treating the loop as a bug. It is an achievement with a name. The game expects it.
- Restoring power before finishing the traversal. Doing the construction site on a half-powered TRC is possible and miserable.
- Talking over the environment. This sector is audio-heavy; the loop's cues are partly sound.
- Giving up on the Battery Bulb. At 0.6% it looks impossible. It is not — it is simply late, and the player base has not arrived yet.
Getting the sector closed
All Grown Up is not the last checkpoint of the sector, but it is the last one that belongs to a room. Once the TRC is behind you, the route runs to Rift Zero, the finale, where the game's two ending achievements sit.
